Aunt Micah's WeddingAunt Micah and Uncle Mark remarried on May 27th. Austin was a joy at the wedding, although he did make noise the entire ceremony. We got to share the day with the immediate family and everyone was thrilled for Micah and Mark.
Three MonthsMom has been slacking and hasn't taken many pictures over the past few weeks. She did manage to catch him on his 3-month birthday. Hopefully we'll get some professional shots over the next couple of weeks. Since we forgot the Tigger toy in the last set of pictures, we included them in all of the shots this month. As you might guess, it was next to impossible to get him to sit still. We had a hard time getting a full-body picture so that everyone can see how much he's grown. Yes, he's still little, but to his parents he's getting HUGE! Once again he wouldn't stretch out for us. At least he was looking cute for most of the pictures. These were just too cute NOT to include. Austin loves playing on his Gymini playmat (thank you Colleen and Janie). He's also been spending time with the Boppy, although he hasn't quite rolled over yet. Brooke props him on his elbows and he falls over to his side (causing him to flip onto his back). She calls it rolling over, but I don't think that's technically what they are talking about. He's also getting close to sleeping through the night. It's a work in progress, but we've gotten him to sleep all the way to 5am and some mornings 6am. I think Brooke is more excited about it than Beau at this point. Austin has also taken to squealing and blowing raspberries. We're not sure where he learned the spitting, but Beau things the squealing might actually be singing. All we know is that it's super high-pitched (like glass shattering pitch) and pretty loud. Either way it makes us laugh.
July 4th at the LakeWe spent the 4th of July at a lake cottage in Virginia with Brooke's family again this year. This was the first time Austin went "swimming", so we had fun playing in the water and riding in Granddad's boat. Granddad, Michael, and Danielle enjoyed meeting Austin for the first time when we arrived. While no one wanted to help with the diapering, Granddad took his turns feeding the boy. Austin took his first dip in the lake from the back of Grandmother and Granddad's boat. Beau had the honors of holding him while he got used to the cooler water, the bathing suit, and the lifejacket. Needless to say he spent quite a bit of the time screaming :) Here are a few more shots of him getting his feet (and the rest of him) wet. He did start getting used to the water finally, but we're fairly certain he likes Grandmother's hot tub better than the lake. Michael and Danielle were a huge help with keeping Austin entertained throughout the vacation. Between chasing his pacifier (Danielle's job) and cleaning up after he spit-up (Michael's job), I think we kept them pretty busy.
Baseball GameBefore Beau left we got to take in a baseball game. The Greensboro Grasshoppers beat someone (I think). As usual, Aunt Michele was the hit of the game for Austin. He spent most of the time sitting and giggling with her instead of watching the intense battle on the field.... Beau and Danielle took Austin out to run around the bases after the game. They were followed shortly by Bill and Michael. I'm not sure why a team called the Grasshoppers had a turtle for a mascot, but the turtle raced Michael from second base to home plate.
Beach TripDuring the two weeks Austin and I spent in NC after Beau headed home to work we got to take a quick weekend trip out to the NC Beach. Granddad had a boating conference to attend, and Grandmother had to play hostess in their hospitality room. Austin and I just tagged along to see what kind of trouble we might get into. As you might imagine, Austin was the hit of the weekend. He and I were among the 4 youngest people there and the other two were middle-school girls. I spent most of the time trying to keep him from screaming and interrupting speeches. I would like to formally thank whoever invented the pacifier. Grandmother and Granddad participated in the annual conch-blowing contest. Grandmother was in charge of cueing the audience with song lyrics while I believe Granddad just drank Rum.... :) Austin even got into the act by wearing his authentic Hawaiian outfit.
Home in NCFor the rest of the vacation Grandmother and Granddad took care of the little monster while I got some work done. I was amazed at how much you can complete when you're not running to and from the crib, fridge for bottles, and entertaining the child between naps. The "boys" enjoyed watching most sporting events from the comfort of Granddad's leather chair. As I mentioned earlier, Austin seemed to like Grandmother's hot tub a bit more than the lake. We took several dips in the "pool" during the stay. By the end of the week, he seemed to know what it meant when we put him in his baby speed-o :)
